If you’ve found yourself feeling overwhelmed during the pre-draw stage of a brow procedure, I get it, I have been there, too. The struggle with too many strokes, trying to make everything look perfect from the start, is a common hurdle for so many permanent makeup artists. But try not to worry, there’s a simple way to approach it that can make your work more precise, stress-free, and, most importantly, enjoyable!
Here’s my step-by-step guide to help you simplify your pre-draw process, and I promise this will help boost your confidence and refine your skills.
1. Start with the Main Skeleton Strokes
Think of the skeleton strokes as the foundation of your brow design. These key strokes define the structure and flow of the brow, so focus on keeping them simple and natural. Follow your client’s natural hair direction and avoid overcomplicating things at this stage. By nailing the basics first, you’ll set yourself up for success when it’s time to fill in the finer details.
2. Don’t Worry About the Final Picture Just Yet
One of the biggest mistakes many PMU artists make is trying to perfect the entire pre-draw before they even start tattooing. It’s easy to get caught up in adding all the connections and details, but this can actually create confusion and lead to mistakes. Instead, concentrate on getting those main strokes down first. The connections and finishing touches can come later.
3. Tattoo in Phases
Once your skeleton strokes are in place, begin tattooing those first. Break the process into manageable phases. After tattooing the main structure, go back and add the connections to create a smooth, seamless design. This step-by-step approach not only simplifies your workflow but also ensures precision and consistency in your results.
Simplifying Your Pre-Draw = Boosting Your Confidence
By breaking the process into smaller, manageable steps, you’ll notice an immediate difference in both your work and your mindset. No more feeling overwhelmed by trying to get it all perfect from the get-go. Instead, you’ll approach each client with clarity and confidence, knowing you have a solid plan in place.
